MATIENZO CAVES PROJECT
OruxMaps files

The following files (for the OruxMaps application) are for use on an Android smart phone or tablet with GPS. They allow informed hill roaming with all entrances, some heavily vegetated depressions and surveyed cave passage centre lines shown on the screen map. The app and data has been tested on various devices.

The latest map file has cave entrances marked. A kmz file of the entrances from Google Earth is also provided so that entrances can be seen over the orthophotos. The kmz file has the additional facility of linking to site descriptions. (See below.)
The meaning of the different entrance icons are shown near the base of this this Google Earth help file.

Small scale map

This file need only be downloaded when OruxMaps is first used. A zipped file of a small scale map.
Approximately 260kb download.

Unzip and move the Matienzo08 folder (containing 2 files) into the OruxMaps/mapfiles folder

Satellite photos This file need only be downloaded when OruxMaps is first used. A zipped file of the satellite photos.
Approximately 170Mb download.
Unzip and move the Matienzo05 folder (containing 2 files) into the OruxMaps/mapfiles folder
1956- 57 aerial photos

A zip file of aerial photos from 1956 - 57. (Has a distortion / calibration problem - see installation file.) Unzip and move the 1956-57Aerial folder (containing 2 files) into the OruxMaps/mapfiles folder
Some depressions

A kml file of some depressions (mainly around Monte Llusa). This has basic site info for each pin (precisely touch the pin). Move the downloaded depressions.kml file into the OruxMaps/overlay folder.
Entrance positions file

A kmz file of the entrances (a layer taken from the recently updated Google Earth file). This has basic site info for each pin (precisely touch the pin) including a link to the website site description. Move the downloaded Entr-2024a.kmz file into the OruxMaps/overlay folder. Delete any previous entrance positions file.
Map (contours, entrances and cave lines) update
2/10/2024

This file, when unzipped, is the detailed map folder which includes the contours, entrances and cave centre lines. It should replace any old map folder on the Android device.
Approximately 60Mb download.

Unzip and install the MatMap2024a folder (containing 2 files) into the OruxMaps/mapfiles folder. The old map folder should be deleted.
