This became the 17th entrance into the Four Valleys System when a short excavation at the surface broke into Fridge Door Cave close to station 1800-22-06.93. (See Fridge Door Cave (1800) for prospecting in the area the previous year.) Subphones, hammering, radios and voices were all used with success at the location and excavation took place. Indeed, the long drill used at the surface was seen in action underground. The entrance (using a code that was kept back for an important site) is now gated and a narrow tube stabilises the short crawl into the system. Initially dug to allow divers much easier access to sump 3 (rather than having to dive in through sumps 1 and 2), the entrance is proving very useful in pushing at the north and eastern end of the cave. The passages to the west of the entrance have also been pushed using #5000. (Latest - October 2024)

As the actual extra length of 5000 is only a couple of metres, all finds made in Fridge Door Cave through this entrance are still recorded within site 1800. Below, the links to photos, etc chronical the opening up of the hole and a family trip to the link point with Cueva Llanío (3234, found at Easter 2023).
