Updated 21st May 2022; 9th February 2023
After an agreement with La Cambera, this site has been reserved for probable exploration at Easter 2022 by named members of the Matienzo Caves Project.
First documented as site X021. "A large, open shaft, about 15m deep."
This was explored on 7/4/2022 with the following description edited from the logbook.
A Y-hang leads to another nearer the main shaft. At about 8m depth is a hole through which negotiable passage is visible. The main shaft continues almost vertically for about 60m (?) to a steep, roofed rubble heap with salamanders. The high passage curves round to the right almost doubling back on itself to a rubble-filled end with high walls. There is a draughting crack on the left wall. This could be capped to a wider part. The site has not been surveyed (so stats are guessed) and the hangers have been removed.
La Cambera group rediscovered the shaft in January 2023, calling it Torca del Viejo with a GPS position of 449309 4804933. Because of the size of the shaft, the cover and the access difficulties, the original GPS reading has been kept, in the header.
