Site description (Nigel Dibben)
The entrance (about 3m wide and 1m high) lies close to the path about 10m from the field gate between the field and the Risco waterfall.
The 8.2m-deep shaft (excluding a small hole in the floor) is a slot about 1m wide and 6.5m long as far as can be seen. At each end (N and S), the slot narrows. At the south end there is stalactite and a small hole in the floor drops another 2m or so. There are lots of bones, probably cow and horse, as well as the remains of a barbed wire fence.
This fossil shaft has no draught and has poor potential for extension.
